Connecting from an iPhone, iPad or Android phone
The computer has to agree to phones first. Both switches below are off until somebody at the computer turns them on.
- Install JoyRemote on the computer from the download page and open it. It shows a ten-digit number.
- In the JoyRemote window on the computer, under Phones and browsers, turn on Let phones and browsers on this network connect through a web page. To connect from anywhere, not only the same Wi-Fi, also turn on Also let a phone connect when it is not on this network. A six-digit code appears under it.
- In the app, type the computer's number, tap Connect, enter the six-digit code if it asks for one, and tap Ask to connect.
- Approve the request on the computer's screen.
If it does not connect
- No answer from the computer: JoyRemote has to be open on the computer, and the computer awake and online.
- The code is refused: type the code the computer shows now. Pressing New code on the computer stops the old one working.
- Nobody approved it: a request that is not answered in time is declined by itself. Ask again with somebody at the computer.
- The list "On this network" is empty on an iPhone or iPad: connect by typing the computer's number instead - it works the same way.
- A Mac shows only its desktop background, or ignores the mouse and keyboard: JoyRemote needs Screen Recording and Accessibility switched on for it in System Settings > Privacy & Security. Then quit and reopen it.
Free hours, relay time and paying
- On the same Wi-Fi as the computer, JoyRemote is free and nothing is counted.
- Over the internet, every device has 1.5 free hours. After that, one payment unlocks it for as long as we run the service. It is not a subscription and nothing renews.
- Some networks, often mobile data, will not let two devices connect directly. Then JoyRemote's relay carries the session. Every device has 15 free minutes of relay; more comes in blocks of 5 hours.
The details, for computers and phones, are on the pricing page. In the app, the gear on the home screen opens Hours and payment, which shows what is left.
A purchase is missing
- iPhone or iPad: open Hours and payment and tap Restore purchases, signed in to the Apple account you paid with. The one payment covers the iPhones and iPads on that account; relay time stays with the device it was bought on.
- Computer, or a payment on this website: write to us with the email address you paid with, or the receipt Paddle sent you.
Refunds
- Paid in the app on an iPhone or iPad: Apple took the payment, and only Apple can refund it. Ask at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- Paid through Google Play: ask Google Play.
- Paid on this website: fourteen days, no reason needed - see refunds and cancellation.
Security and privacy
Nobody gets in without being approved on the computer itself, and a phone can see the screen and use the mouse and keyboard but cannot reach the computer's files. If somebody you do not know asks you to approve a connection, decline it. More on the security page; what we keep and why is in the privacy policy.
